I have a lot of goals this year, for the first time in several years. I spend the last few years in survival mode and then healing mode and then preparing mode. 2025 is my year to COME OUT BIG. I plan to make a big splash and make a big impact. I'm so excited to take off running.
This year, I am hoping to grow my readership on Substack (so, so close to 100 right now!) and work on pitching more freelance work, hoping to land more bylines. Also, finish and revise my book.
So, a busy year! But I find hope and inspiration in the writing I read by other people on Substack and in time spent outdoors.
I have started to pick up my New Year continuance. January is a terrible time to start something new. The darkness and cold call for the comfort of the familiar, slipping back into the established patterns works just fine. Spring, with a feeling of new growth about to emerge in the air, is the time for changes in our lives. Nothing boosts the energy to support a change like doing so when the world is changing around you. The sheer determination of new life to emerge and thrive is infectious.
I plan on completing the two books I have started in 2024, I alternate between then when I run out of juice on one. Everything else will have to wait till March to be thought about.
In the coming year, I hope to be kinder to myself. Instead of diminishing myself by frequently saying "I'm sorry" for things that don't require an apology, I hope to make an internal shift and replace those words with "Thank you" to share and spread some much-needed grace.
I dream of growing into a more resilient and capable version of myself. Despite the challenges posed by chronic and disabling health conditions, I aspire to cultivate strength that empowers me to pursue my goals with determination and confidence while celebrating small victories.
I’m having a novel published by a micro-press (“Keep Sweet” about escape from a polygamist cult). I want to celebrate that. I also need to dig in and see if I can be a guest on podcasts, etc.
My aim for the New Year is to stay the course here on Substack. Write and publish, write and publish. My goal is just taking things one step at a time. Hone my skills as a writer, build an audience, and not sweat the small stuff. To sum it up, continuing to write and read! That is my New Year hope.
In 2025, I’m doing paid Zoom groups, starting with this six-week Spiritual Support group: bit.ly/WearySouls. It starts Jan 12 and I’m limiting it to 12 people; 8 have already signed up!
Thanks, Robin! I’m very excited about it! I also plan to start doing video posts on Substack (at least one per month) and enabling the option to share them as podcasts on Apple and Spotify (and maybe YouTube too).
Just before reading your newsletter, I spent time adding specific tasks to my 2025 calendar–starting each day with meditation, journaling, exercise, and a new video feature called "The Daily Tap" (short Affirmational tapping incorporating Oracle cards)–daily writing to complete my second book and continuing my weekly newsletter–Plus, I've been asked to be a regular guest on "The Awaken Hope Show" (internet radio/podcast). They are extending the tapping segments to at least an hour per week because of so many positive responses, and the listeners will be invited to call in to get specific help with their issues. Happy New Year, everyone.
Thanks for asking, Robin. I plan to start The Daily Tap soon and share it with you, my readers, and others when it's up and running. I got Restream so that I can go live on several channels simultaneously. However, there's a tech glitch connecting my YouTube channel. I may start with YouTube only and share with the others until it's fixed.
The Daily Tap isn't clinical EFT tapping. It's taking a moment to experience coming out of our busy minds and dropping into calm with clarity and possibility. I'll choose a topic like confidence, self-trust, or releasing anxiety and use Oracle cards or a quote from a book (perhaps mine 😃) to guide the affirmations. There are coaches, therapists, and others certified to provide The Daily Tap using crystals, colors, artwork, essential oils, etc, as catalysts for the affirmations. The creator of this process is Emma Starling of Evolved Energetics. I've studied with her in several advanced Trauma-sensitive Somatic Eft Tapping courses, such as Rapid Imprint Resolution Method. Her mission is to share the power of tapping with a million people in her lifetime. The Daily Tap is a perfect fit since I have a similar mission to share EFT and other empowerment processes with women worldwide. You can find Emma on all the socials under her name or evolved energetics. I'm excited to serve in this way. I'll share my link soon. You can help spread the word. 🤩
This year I will blossom more fully into the reasons I changed the name of my Substack to WW II Baby. You can read or listen to the podcast explaining it here https://wwiibaby.substack.com/p/why-i-changed-names, but the essence of it is this.
I am someone who appreciates and lives between different worlds. From being born between generations during World War II, to appreciating the gifts of both my father's values and of the Boomers in the 60's who threw off the old way of doing things while separating myself from what I see as the errors of each, to hosting two podcasts that reflect two major aspects of myself.
One is Sacred Gyre, an invitation to live your deepest values and the other is Butterfly Arose where I talk about my learnings and experiences, writings where I live my own values.
As I prepared for my next episode of Butterfly Arose, putting the words of all the previous episodes onto one Word document, I could see a future book in the early stages.
I am betwixt and between and will blossom from there as usual.
What a beautiful invitation to reflect and dream, Robin and Robin! Thank you for creating such a vibrant and supportive space with SmallStack—your 2024 milestones are truly inspiring.
For 2025, I hope to deepen the creative and personal connections I’ve begun building here. One of my intentions is to focus on building meaningful connections. If they grow into lasting relationships, all the better, but I also cherish the beauty of a single shared moment that carries meaning. I am open to both and excited to see where these interactions lead.
My biggest dream is to continue integrating my Canyon Model—a framework I’m developing for self-discovery and healing—into a memoir and perhaps a self-help book. Writing this has been a journey of untangling, understanding, and illuminating the complexities of my inner landscape, and I hope to share it with a wider audience by year’s end.
I also love being part of collaborations, particularly on themes like healing journeys, personal growth, the intersection of private and political life, diversity, intersectionality, philosophy, and psychology. The idea of mutual growth and creative exchange excites me, and I hope to engage with like-minded people here who are also on their own unique paths.
As for inspiration, it’s the little moments of kindness and connection—like the warmth of this space—that remind me how powerful shared dreams and collaboration can be.
Wishing everyone here a year full of meaningful creativity, connection, and growth! If you’d like to connect or explore collaboration, I’m always open to conversations.
May 2025 bring us all an abundance of meaningful connections, creative fulfillment, and moments of profound growth. Wishing everyone here a blessed and joyful start to the new year!
To make more of my own work instead of consuming others' (which is often under the guise of 'research'). You can burn a lot of time being curious 😆 Especially on Substack where there are so many fine writers to discover.
But there is a certain tension at play here too. A contradiction. I also need to make what I described in my last dispatch of the year as big "flag-in-the-ground" work. A variety of it.
"A play. A short film. A new radio show. A novella or photobook poetry collection. Something with more heft and permanence."
The piece tries to reconcile the struggle to gather a loyal readership with the need to be patient. To accept that certain letters may blow away unnoticed in a flurry of fallen leaves while others will grow out of the seeds of our encounters and discoveries as we move through the world. A big part of it all is trusting ourselves to be in the right place at the right time. Then we must stay true to the craft and see it through.
Amar, I deeply appreciate your reflections and the honesty in your words. Wishing you all the best with your creative projects in 2025—may it be a year of meaningful growth and joy. Thank you for sharing!
Now I feel as if something is brewing writing-wise. However I don’t know yet whether it will turn out to be a public thing or a private thing. That sounds mysterious but it’s simply that a couple of things have resonated with me over the last 24 hours and I have no idea where they may take me…exciting times!
Helen, congratulations on all you’ve achieved this year—it’s inspiring! Your sense of something brewing feels exciting and full of possibility. I look forward to seeing where your reflections and explorations take you, whether public or private. Wishing you a creative and fulfilling 2025!

For those of us who live in the US, I hope we can survive the Orange Turd.
On a personal level, I'd like to see more of my stories published.
And I'd like to make some headway in getting my Harold Sallie stories published in ebook and/or paperback.
Year of 2025 is about connection—connecting with myself, my loved ones, my readers, nature and the world at large.
I love that intention for the new year.
Connection is such a powerful word.

Hoping to find a publisher for my children’s book and to make some great music!
Jessie, this sounds really exciting! Congrats on getting to the point of looking for a publisher. I'd love to hear how your experience goes.
Thank you! Whatever happens, good or bad, I will be sure to let Substack know!
Happy new year!

Sandy, way to go! I'm not familiar with affirmational tapping. Can you share a link so that I can learn more?

Aww thank you. Joy sounds great 🤞🏾
I achieved so much more than I expected on Substack this year.
