The Library is Open for Submissions!
and it's bigger and better than ever!
It’s been a few months since SmallStack premiered and asked if you would like to be listed in the SmallStack Library. Through technical challenges and unforeseen hurdles, we launched our Library last September, and today we’re back with several EPIC announcements.
But first, we would like to thank all of our free and paid subscribers, as well as those of you who make individual donations to SmallStack. It takes countless hours of work, meetings, collaborations, and creativity to make our spaces fun and usable, and we couldn’t do it without you. On behalf of the entire SmallStack Team, thank you!!
The Library is bigger and better than ever
The Library is now updated with Every Single Listing LIVE! That’s right, if you submitted your publication, you are in!* As of today our Library has nearly 1800 listings across 22 unique categories.
What makes us different from the rest of Substack? We make it easy to find the little publications, of course!
The SmallStack Library only hosts publications with fewer than 1000 subscribers.
Our categories and tags allow you, the creator, to be found by more than just a catchy title (although you really should read through some of the great publication names we host!). SmallStack Library listings are each given a main category to reside in, and then creators can also select up to four additional tags to diversify their listing.
Add your publication to the Library!
That’s right, you’ve waited, and we’re finally reopening our doors to new listings. Library updates will happen weekly, so please allow a few days for processing when submitting your information. If your publication needs an update, please use this same form to let us know what’s changed.
If you’ve outgrown us (over 1000 subscribers) you can opt to have your publication removed from the Library. We’re even including the option to request to move your listing to the future SmallStack Alumni Library (opening TBD).
Did you know we have an FAQ for all those burning questions you’re thinking of?? Head on over and check it out!
*Please note that some listings were not published in the Library. This was mostly due to (A) publications being over the 1000 subscriber limit or (B) publications not providing a URL that could be used. If you believe that your listing should be there and you cannot find it, please resubmit your publication to the Library.
Nominate a Featured Post
SmallStack shares Featured Posts from listings in our Library every single Friday, rain or shine. And now you can help find them! When you find a post from a Library listing that strikes you as powerful, unique, or simply worth sharing with the community, fill out our form to recommend it for a Featured Post. It’s a super lowkey way to contribute to promoting members of our small community, helps The Team immensely, and earns you a public mention from us, too!
Featured Posts come from publications with 500 or fewer subscribers.
Please do not nominate yourself to be a Featured Post, but please DO nominate your friends, enemies, and co-conspirators!
Paywalled posts are not eligible to be Featured Posts.
We prefer posts that prioritize accessibility (e.g. alt text for all images).
When you nominate a post, you’ll be asked to provide a short paragraph on why you did. This paragraph will also appear on the Featured Post if your nomination is accepted.
We are delighted to lift up… Libraries!
SmallStack is now officially donating at least 10% of our revenue to charitable organizations. We’ll be selecting four unique organizations to support this year. For January through March we’ve chosen to support the American Library Association (ALA).
The ALA Mission: To provide leadership for the development, promotion, and improvement of library and information services and the profession of librarianship in order to enhance learning and to ensure access to information for all.
January’s proceeds of $235.23 were pretty amazing! We’ll be rounding that up to $25 for the ALA this month. And this means you still have part of February and all of March to help make an impact with your own contributions to SmallStack. We’ll post the grand total for the spring quarter in a future staff post. Whether you donate to SmallStack on Ko-fi or become a paid subscriber, at least 10% of your funds support great organizations. You can also donate directly to the ALA!
Seed Pods a’comin’!
Our third official Seed Pod opens next week! Are you excited? We’re excited.
The theme for this pod is close to our own hearts. It’s something that everyone experiences, almost everyone dreads, yet often leads to unexpected opportunities down the line.
The theme for this Seed Pod is… drumroll please… failure.
Want to join us? The Seed Pod opens on Feb 25. Watch your inbox for the announcement.
From all of us at the SmallStack Team, thanks for being part of our great community and Library. We couldn’t do it without you!
