Maybe you’ve noticed that the year is already starting to wind down. The days are getting shorter, and our schedules are getting tighter. Between work or school obligations, family gatherings, holiday prep, and changing weather, it can be difficult to remember why we do the things we do. But we all started creating because something about it drew us in and felt meaningful.
Tell us why you started creating
Were you looking for an audience of readers?
Did you crave some sort of feedback?
Was your motivation to earn income from your creations?
Maybe you wanted some independence or even fame!
Join us in the comments, and tell us about why you chose to start creating, whether your creations have always been in a substack publication or elsewhere. If you’ve written about your reasons for creating, we would love to see a link to that post! And if you have a creation—writing, visual art, music, video, or something else—we would LOVE for you to share it with us.
SmallTalk is here for you! This is your space to build relationships, share your thoughts, and grow together. A few reminders to help you get the most out of this space:

Make new friends. This is a place where beautiful collaborations are born. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, celebrate each others’ wins, and reach out to people you’d like to collaborate with. We’re all supporting each other here.
I have been an artist and writer since I was tiny. For a long stretch in my 20s and early 30s, I lost touch with my creative self and only wrote for work. I started Creative Letters to get back in touch with the joy of writing for its own sake, and I found the most wonderful community along with it! I'm so grateful to be here with all of you! https://creativeletters.substack.com/
One a day a friend told me that I should start a blog because my travel experience were peculiar. Immediately I thought it was a stupid Idea, but after a while I gave it a try and I found that it is a good way to rethink about my experiences and digest them, a sort of therapy. I don't have plans to make money from my substack, I just like to write and take pictures.
